The Akaroa Mail. TUESDAY, OCTOBER 1, 1929. AKAROA LADIES REST ROOM.
The Akaroa Ladies Rest Room is spt aside once more for another year. The Akaroa Borough Council are making a habit 1 o[ putti'ng a sum on their estimates for this necessary work and then abandoning the project diverting 1 the funds into some other channel. On this occasion the Akaroa footpaths will 1 benefit to the extent of the QIOQ estimate for the Rest Roonx It does not seem quite the proper procedure to use up lVM.r.oy voted for one purpose diverting it into another channel. It is admitted that estimates cannot be followed exactly ; but this .particular vole has been shel'ved! so often that it is in danger of becoming a perennial dummy on the estimates. The 1 R:::.t Roomi is needed urgently in a tourist resort like Akaroa and it sec ma a great pity to leave it over still another year. There was a majority with the Mayor's casting vote, in favour of the site by the Council Chambers and it seems remarkable that they did not 1 push on with the work instead of abandoning the whole 1 project. After all the heated debates on. the sites the abandonment of the whole scheme am(h the diversion' of the vote to the footpaths account was a very lame ending if there was a majority on I h - .■Council in favour of the erection c.l a Ladies l Rest Room.
