•At the annual meeting of the parishioners of St. John's Church, the" Rev. F. Thorpe, presided. The churchwarden, Mr W. Thomas, thanked the parishioners, and congregation for their support, also all church workers. He referred to the retirement of Archbishop Julius as being the greatest event of the Church "year. He regretted that the vicar's heal'th had not been satisfactory of late, and hoped that he would return from his holiday completely restored in health. Since Mr Thorpe had been appointed the congregation had increased considerably. The balance sheet showed the receipts to be £111 19s 9d, including balance from 1923, £6 4s 6d. Expenditure amounted to £111 Is 9d leaving a credit balance of 18s The election of church officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows : Bishop's warden, Mr S. A. Marris; people's warden, Mr W. Thomas; vestry, Mesdames T. G. Ware and S. A. Harris, Messrs W. Robinson, H. Harris, P. Moore, S. A. Harris, P. Cumming. E. N. Moore, W. Harris, S. H. Thomas ; auditor, Mr W. Robinson. At the close of the meeting a social held and a very enjoyable time was spent in songs, games, and dancing. Songs were sung by Miss Doreen Hammond (North Island), and Mr Bullen (Christchurch). The latter also gave an amusing recitation. At an interval, supper was handed round by the ladies. Music for the dance was provided by Mrs W. Robinson and Mr G. Graham.

Harris, Grant (2), Winnie Robinson, Sylvia, Thora, Irene, and Rona Mason, and Betty Boleyn, Messrs W. Thomas, W. Robinson, S. H. Thomas, Arnold Ware, A. Coffin, P. Cumming, A. Spurr, Church, H. Holstein, C. Holstein, L. Harris, Reg Mora, E. A. Harris, Floyd Mason, Val Mason, Bullen, H. Mason, Jack Mason, Walter Harris jun., George Graham, Masters E. Mason, C. Ilced, and G. Ware.
The school reopened on Monday, but as many of the pupils had not heard of the lifting of the restrictions, the attendance was poor, The following day over 90 per cent, attended.
A meeting of the Ladies' Guild in connexion with St. John's Church was held in the Library on Thursday, when there was a good attendance of members. Mrs J. Bol'eyn presided and others present were Mrs T. Ware (vice-president), Mrs S. H. Thomas (treasurer). Misses A. Ware and G. Box (joint-secret-aries), Mrs W. Robinson, Mrs A. Mason, Mrs Silas Harris, Miss Elsie Harris, Mrs Archie Ware, Miss Rita Mason, Mrs P. Gumming, and Mrs Percy Harris. Visitors were Mrs L. Craig (Chorlton), Mrs L. Harris, (West Coast), and Miss Doreen Hammond (North Island). It was decided that the next guild day, May 1-lth, should be a gift afternoon for the St. Saviour's Babies' Home at Sumner, Mrs Ware and Mrs S. 11. Thomas were appointed to purchase material to be done up and it was decided to take orders for garments to be made by members. The vice- ! president reported that the sale of articles at the parishioners' meeting amounted to El. These articles were left over from the sale of work last year. After the business part of the meeting a dainty afternoon tea was handed round. The opportunity was taken to congratulate the secretary, Miss -Ware, on her coming of age that day. A dainty birthday cake was cut and her health was drunk with musicafl honours. Miss Ware, who was the recipient of a basket of gifts, was taken completely by surprise and thanked those present * for their kind wishes and gifts.
