AKAROA FIRE BRIGADE

0 — —« CHILDREN'S BALL. . The annual children's ball organized by the Akaroa Fire Brigade was held in the Oddfellows' Hall on, Friday evening when there was a large attendance of children and grownups. The costumes were well carried out in most cases and evidently parents had been 'to some- pains to prepare same. The children had a very happy time, having an excellent supper provided for them as well as dances and games. There has been a suggestion that the children's ball should be held in the summer time and this would be an improvement as in August so many colds are prevalent that the attendance is much affected. During the evening the Mayor (Mr G. Armstrong), presented long ser'vice bars to members of the Fire {Brigade. Before doing so he congratulated the Brigade on the suc'cess of the ball that night. He 'apologised for the absence that night 'of the Superintendent, Mr C. Good- • win, who was indisposed. He then ' presented the medals as follows :— I Deputy Superintendent A. Macfarlane, 21 years service bar. ! Fireman D. Langrope, 19 years service' bar. j Fireman T. O'Brien, 5 years ser- ! vice bar.
