BANKS PENINSULA RABBIT BOARD.
A meeting of the Board was held on Wednesday, 13th inst, there being present Messrs H. T. Chapman (c : hair man), J. Parkinson, F. R. H. Gardiner J. O. Coop, H. A. Nutt, Wm. Menzies and J. C. C. Gebbie.
Correspondence was dealt with to : Akaroa Express Co., re charge for carting poison shed to Duvauchelles ; to Inspector Radford requesting him to make a special report on Mr A. E. Williams' property at Port Levy, also as to timber required to repair Flood Gate at Mr J. C. C. Gebbie's ; to Inspector Hoskin as to ingredients required for mixing poison; from Inspector Radford, drawing the Board's attention to the rabbits being very numerous against the fence, and that occupier adjoining the fence should be made to destroy theem. He also suggested about 7 or 8 inches of netting be fixed on the top of the present fence at right angles for about one mile from Mr F. Giddens' towards Teddington to prevent the rabbits from getting over the fence. ! He further stated that Mr A. E. Wil- j jliams had engaged two rabbiters.
On the suggestion of Mr Coop, the secretary was instructed to order 100 ft. of 4 inch by 3 A inch and 2/10s of 4xl of birch, also 1 gallon of tar to be sent out to Inspector Radford to repair the flood gate at Mr J. C. C. Gebbie's. The inspectors reports from December 19th to January 31st were, read and commented upon. The secretary was instructed to write Inspector Hoskin to call on Mr Menzies when in that vicinity re rabbiting for Mr Hay. It was proposed by Mr Coop and seconded by Mr Parkinson that Mr Gardiner interview Mr Williams on behalf of the Board ; also that Inspector Radfordi be sent to Mr Williams for three days to assist him to destroy the rabbits. The secretary was instructed to ascertain particulars re rabbit fences in North Canterbury being increased in height. Mr Gardiner moved that Messrs Menzies, Gebbie, Nutt and Coop inspect the fende with a view of increasing its height or putting twelve inches of netting at right angles on the outside of the fence. This was seconded by Mr Parkinson and carried. That the Agri- ( cultural Department be written to to take immediate steps to eradicate the pest outside the Board's district was proposed by Mr Coop, seconded by Mr Parkinson and carried. The members agreed that altering the Gazetted area of the district to the fence line did not warrant charges as no benefit would be derive'd therefrom. Mr Chapman stated that Mr Coop and himself had been appointed a deputation to ask the Board if they would arrange to hold meetings on the Peninsula and it was decided to leave this proposal over till next meeting. The secretary reported that rates received for January amounted to £36 3s Id and to February 13th £27 17s lid. The balance of rates outstanding was £492 15s 2d. Accounts amountng to £106 were passed for payment. INSPECTORS' REPORTS.
Inspector RJedford reported having/ inspected the following properties: Over J. Parkinson's and W. J. Irven's but did not see any, also over J. Watson's, part of W. Brown's and to the homestead of A. S. Duncan but did not see any. Put up one near K. Parkinson's house, but on Mrs Coop's part of 90 Mile Beach on F. B'irdlings A. E. Birdling's and W. F. Parkinson's did not find any. Over D. Anderson's put up three, got one, also got one on W. V. Whitta's. On F. Coop's did not put any up, but got one at Kaituna Island and put up two on Quealy's Hil). Got nine little ones in a stop and put one up on G. Humphries. On J. C. C. Gebbie's found none, also on F. Birdling's, but on A. E. Birdling's got the only two he found. * Over Mrs Coops', Waihora, got eight in the gorse, but there were a fair amount of signs, again over Mrs Coop's and got four. Over 90 mile beach saw two in the sandhills on A. E. Birdling's ; found odd ones over Park Hill- and Hodgers and a fair amount on G. Radford's and Morton's. Down the beach on F. Coop's and part of A. E l . Birdling's but did not find any. On part of E. W. Bailey's put up two getting both but on R. Willey's did not find any. Also reported fixed wire netting where it joins the Halswell River, and fixing it in minor places where it was necessary, otherwise the fence was in good order. Attending gate at B. W'hitham's and put two 4xl on the gate.
Inspector Hoskin reported having inspected the following: over J. Stewart's and Robt. Pettigrew's, put up three small ones on Kelly's road between Stewart's and Pettigrew's, got them. Re-inspected G. G. Holmes put up four in Gay's Bush and saw numerous signs on the blocks, instructed him to lay more poison or use other means of destruction. Shot two on J. Brocherie's, saw none on part of Buckl-and's, also none on Stanbury's. Saw signs on K. McPhails', but put none up, also saw the same on R. Mould's. Saw no signs on 0. Waghorn's, A. McPhail and C. Mclnnes, but on Peraki Estate found a stop with five young ones and put one up in Peraki Valley. Put up one on A. McDonald's and two on N. Wright's and put up two getting one on T. White's, saw numerous signs along his boundary.-- Got two just inside boundary gate of Keenan Bros., and saw none on Mrs Donovan's, nor any on P. Shadbolt's. Over J. Wright's put up one on part P. White's, put up two and got one near his boundary. On J. Wallar's put up four, getting three, also saw two on J. 0. Coop's and got both but on McLean's and T. BrankinV saw none. Over D. Richards' did not see any signs. Put up one on J. Livingstone's and saw signs on spur at back of Church, but did not put any up. Over J. F. Buchanan's saw none, but a few signs in yards adjoining Mr I Edwards', did not see any on D. McKay's. nor any on Mr Hooker's. '
