H.M.S. PYLADES.

The Pylades had excellent weather while in harbour, and there was a good deal, of pleasant intercourse with those on shore. The boat must have taken away a large quantity of fruit, as it was a very common thiog to see several bine* jaokets. each with a sack full of fruit on his shoulder. A good deal of riding and tennis was in* dnlged in, and on Tuesday afternoon the officers were again entertained by the Akaroa Lawn Tennis Club with afternoon tea. Some vf ry good games wore played; Messrs Treweek and 8. Lelievre challenged the ship end were beaten by Messrs Dwenport and Williams (Pylades)—6 4, 16, 6 4. A football match was arranged between the ship and a local fifteen, to be played on Tuesday afternoon ; but, as the vessel was being painted, the men were unable to obtain leave.

On Tuesday. Captain DaCosta. accompanied by the ship's doctor and another gentle' man, went down in the Pylade's lannch to fish at the Heads- They took Mr C. Pool with them to poinb out the likeliest; spots for hapuka fishlnc The sport was good, sixhapuka in all being landed. Captain D* Costa's himself landed one fish, weighing 521bp, and pronounced himself as delighted with the trip. ,

On Wednesday a orickeb matoh was played on the Recreation Ground between a ship's team and an Akaroa eleven. Play commenced at 10 30 a.m., and Akaroa, winning the tos*. pnt the ship in., Ma«on, Masefleld Willisnu. and Treweek bowled for Akaroa, Mason taking 7 wicketsl for 30. Mr Davenport, who captained the ship's) eleven. carried his bat right through.. making 47 runs. The ship's total for the'first innings was 86. B

Akaroa then went in and made {$8 runs. Messrs Wilson and Wilkins began the batting for Akaroa, and kept together for half an hour, when Wilkins was put outiwith 11 runs. Mr Traweek then joined Mrj Wilson, and the two put the soore up to 60, when Mr Treweek was pub out with 19 runs. Mr Wilson made the bigee«t aoore ef bhe day, 51 runs, and Messrs Mason and Robinson made 11 oaoh for Akaroa, Mr Robinson mak ing one 6. Akaroa's total was 138 runs. For the PJyades. Messrs Davenport,- Par* sons and Jones acted as bowlers, j The Pylades went in a second time, and made 30 runs for 9 wickets. The largest scores were: Woolmer 45 and Efchorington 13, Scum pa hid to he drawn punctually at 5, on account of the ship's departure; so Akaroa thus won by 63 run* on the Ist innings. The Akaroa team entertained the shipVi eleven at luncheon, ab Bpooner's Hotel, and; m the afternoon, the ladies of Akaroa invited both teams to a muoh appreciated afternoon tea on the Akaroa Lawn Tennis Courts.
