AKAROA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of this Counoil was held on Wednesday evening. Present—His Worship the Mayor and Crs. Cheoklev, Newton, Chappell, Henning, Vangioni, Munro, and Ir-gram. Li aye of absence was granted to Cr Lelievre. MINUTIS. The minutes of the last ordinary and speoial meetings were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Outward correspondence was read and approved. Inward correspondence was read—

From Government " Gazette," appointing days and means for destroying injurious birds. No more poisoning is to be done ia boroughs. The purchases of eggs, nests and birds are to b9 instituted and the nuisance oon tended with in that way.

Cr Henning said he understood the septic tanks were to be placed near the Fire Brigade Station. He thought it inadvisable to have them there. The strip of land behind the Library was very suitable—muoh more so thin the place mentioned. He moved— That a committee be empowered to enquire into the matter, and that the septic tanks be placed elsewhere than on the Borough Reserve. Cr Munro seconded the motion pro forma. He did not sympathise with the motion as no money was set aside for acquiring ground

for the site of the Beptio tanks. His Worship said that it wa true the septic tanks were washed out almost annually ; but there was nothing offensive about}

Cr Vangioni thought the lamps were lit !juite often enough. The motion was then put and lost. TRUCK FOR THH NKW WHARF. Cr Vangioni asked if anything had been done about procuring trucks for the wharf. Or Newton said he understood that the Town Clerk had procured one. However, he had since found out that the one he had seen belonged to Mr Vangioni. Or Henning aßked what Bizsd truok was to be procured." He did not think a too large one fhould be obtained. He advised that the To#n Clerk consult the carters and get their opinion as to a suitable Bize. The matter was left in the Clerk's bands to arrange. FIBF BELL CLAPPER. Or Ingram informed the Council that the Fire Brigade Intended trying the newotap* per of the hell on Wednesday next at 7 30 p.m. The Council then adjourned.
