Wednesday Meeera Mateon and Co report:—
Fat cattle showed a rise in values, but store ewes and unfinished 'at sheep were rather easier. Fafc lambs sold at about late rates. S ore pigs were in strong demand, and brought higher prices, and there was a gocd ci quiry for store cattle, which sold at improved rates. In the stnre cheep pene there wae an entry of 1656. mostly ewes in lamb and hosrgrts. The few wethers that were in and good hcggeta sold well up to late ratee, but several lines of ewes failed to find buyers at the pries eeked. The chief salee were :—156 four, sir, and eight tooth ewes, 20s ; 155 at 13s, smaller lots 16* 3d to 19s 91. 181 v-rtiers 10a others 17s 4d to 19?, 325 ewe hoggets 16b Id. There were only 363 fat hoggets offered, and they were mostly of moderate quality, Belling at 14s 3d to 19s, There were no new season's fat lambs entered.
There was a fairly large entry cf fat cheep. the bulk of which were wethers. A considerable proportion were backward in condition, and for these there was less com' petition, and prices were easier, but all prime lots cold up to late rates, and in some cases a further advance was shown, Extra prime heavy weight wetViem made 26e 3d to 359, prime 21s 3d to 26a, lighter and unfiuifihed 18s 6d to 2ls, ewes 15s to 20s, merino wethera 16s lid to 18s 7d.
There was a fairly larce yarding of fat sheep, and the salu opened at easier rates. In the fat cattle pens 152 bead wpre offered, the quality being very mixed, ft considerable portion not being well finished. There was a good demand,, and prices showed an advance on those lately ruling. A line of 11 steers from Mr G. G. Holmes, Pigeon Bay, madp £13 10s to £16 10s. two steerH from Mr W. Nixon, KiMinchv. £14 *n< l £14 ss - and a heifer £13 10s Other fteera brought £7 5s t n £l3a hpifere £6 to £11 ss, and cows £5 ]Q< to fill 15". and one extra £12 rqiml tr> 35a to 38* for prime, and 30e to 34a fnr medium, per lOOlbs. A email entry of veal calve? -old at 5a to £3 sb, according to size nna quality.
