The attendance of buyers wae limited, but an Ashburton farmer wae a large operator in wethers, and secured several thousand, though a considerable proportion of the entry was p«sed at auction, a number of lines were afterwards Bold privately, and late prices were, on the whole well maintained for all cla?es. The principal sales at auction were 95 lamb" 9s lid, 245 at 9s Bd, 202 at 8* Bd. 101 at 5s 9<l; 50 fr.nr tooth wethere 14s 6d, 215 at 14s 3?, 500 atl3s 93, 2340 from the North Island 13a 91; 145 at 13s 9d ; 270 two tooth wethers 13s 4d, 88 at 13' 3d, 103 at 12s 10d, 84 a y , 10a 6d and 90 at 10* 5d : 361 two t'-nfh wethers ond ewes 12e 6i ; 208 ewes, mixe.l ase?. 14; 8d ; 285 two tooths 14s 7d ; 242 at 14' 6<i ; 147 at 13s 9d ; 146 sound month 8s 6d, 198 sound mouth merino ewes 6* 71.

The number of fat lambs penned was 1674 an I the quality was very mixed, t> proportion being very fine freezers, and there were rmny liree unfinished that were only forwird s ores. There was praotically no alteration in price 3 for freezers from laet week, best anr's making 14s to 15s2d, a few °xtni 15s 8d to 17e 31, and lighter weights 12a 6d to 13* 66\ lirszierfl , and butchers lots sold from 9a upwards.

There was a fair yarding of fat sheep, wethers forming a much larger proportion than last week. There was better competition for freezing wethers last week, and prices were rather firmer. Except for a few prime lota eirly in the tale, ewes showed further decided decline in values, there being no demand for export. The range of pricee was .-—Freezing WPthers 16a to 18e Id, maiden ewes 14a to 16s 6d. beat butchers' ewes 143 to 17* 9d, medium Hi to 13s 6d, others 9s to 10s 6d.

The entry of fat cattle was very small, only 85 head being penned, and there was a sharp rise in prices in consequence. A line cf 8 steers frnm Mr G. G. Holmes, Pigeon Bay, nwie £10 17s 6d to £12 7s 6d, other eteere £7 81 to £10 s', heifers £6 to £8 17s 6d, and sows £5 2? 6d to £87e6d, and one extra £10 7a 6<3, equal to 27s to 30a ncr 1001b.

A small yarding of pigs made last week's rates for fate, while stores were somewhat easier. Baconers brougnt 45s to 655, equal to 5d per lb, porkers 30s to 455. equal to s|d to 6d per lb, large stores 22a 6d to 30c, medium 16s to 20a, euckers and weanere 10a to 15a.
