AKAROA LIBRARY.

The annual meeting of the 'subsoibers to the Akaroa Library was held laet night. The Committee mat first, the President, Vice President, and Messrs Black, Orbell, and Jacquet, and agreed to the report and balance sheet.

Eighty six volumes have been added lo the circulating library. The Committee found it necjssary to construct two bays of shelves on the west side of the room owing to the large number of books recently pur' chased. The •* New Zealand Graphic " has also been procured and plaoed on the table. The receipts for the year have been £53 19s 9d, made np of members' subscriptions £25 ss, share of Government subsidy £9 13s 9d, grant in aid from Akaroa Borough Council £15, donation £1 Is, sale of papers £3. The expenditure for the same period has been £5110s, £25 4s 9d of which has been for books, £16 for Secretary's salary, and £10 6i 3d for miec llaneous items of expenditure. The crvh balanae in hand on January Ist, 1903, was £19 7s 3d. The statement of receipts and expenditure for the year, duly audited by Mr 0. W. Leete, is presented herewith." The report was adopted on ths motion of Mr Orbell, seconded by Mr Black. Vote of thanks to the retiring officers, and to Mr C. W. Leete, who had kindly acted as Auditor.

The following officers for the ensuing year were then elected :—President, Mr H. C, Jacobson : Vice President, Dr Hargreaves ; Committee, Messrs Jacquet, Black, Bruce, Orbell, Dodds, Mottram, Taylor, and Gray. At a Committee meeting held subsequently it was resolved to procure £5 worth of new books, and also a lamp and chairs.
