Cγ Newton reported that £17.0 a ,2d had been expended in : olose decking the wharf for 96ft. TJNSIOHTL? TANKS. Cr Leete pointed out that now the water eupply was laid on" "io the new wharf, the two ucsightly tanks across the Bruce!fi creek bridge might be removed There was also an ugly tank on Bruce's Terrace, he believed belonged to the proprietor cf Bruca'e Hotel. It was pointed out that theatf tanks did not bilong to the Borough Cosncil, but to private citizens. The two tanks over the bridge were the property 9? the proprietors of the steam launo l, , who still need' the water. Cra Leete and Munro eaid the steam launch used (he water from the supply. Cγ Cheokley aaid there wa* a meter at the wharf and the water taken for the launch was measured by ith It was better to let this continue for a month, ascertain the amount of water need and charge io proportion. Cr Leete agreed to this course, beipg pireued, ao long as the question of getting rid of the dilapidated tanks'(which w.tre.an eye sore to the Borough) waa not lost sigfit of. THE DUVAUOHBIXE'S,,AND BAQEY's BAT. JETTIES. Cr Munro complained of the state of the Duvauchelle's jetty, and said that at Barry's Bay pa'sengers had to wade out. to the boat to be taken off to the launch. He thought the Borough Council might appoinb a deputation to wait on the Road, Board andCounty Counioil to Wβ if the 'three.,'bocftee could not urge on the Government the reces aity of having these jetties puV in ■, proper order for passenger traffic. This might be done, he thought, through the Tourist Department, for Government was expending a great deal of money at Hanmer and other tourist resorts, whereas Akaroa, .which had equal rights, was totally neglected, . Hβ thought the three bodies together would have a strong influence, and believed if these wharves were put in proper ordef; and' the Little River lice made the sole mail route it would greatly accelerate the tourist traffic to Akaroa. Hβ moved—That 'Hie Worship the Mayor and Cr Leete wait on the County Council and Akaroa and Wainui Road Board in order that a joint application might be made to the Government for the improve ment of the route to Akaroa by the repair of Duvauohelle'a and Barry's Bay jetties. Cr lagram seconded, and said that the jetties were a disgrace to the place. Paaaen gers had to go down a rough ladder into the launch at Duvauchelle's, and at low .water at Barry's Bay had to wade out on the wet sand to a small boat to be taken aboard, whilst luggage was transported with equal difficulty.

The Mayor said he understood the running of the launch in conjunction with -the coach had been discontinued for the present. Cr Taylor considered it was the wrong time to bring the matter forward. It would cost a large sum to repair theie jetties. There should be a> general scheme to bring the traffic into one channel, and then improve the route so as to inalse Akaroa a popalar tourist reeort. This it would never be so long as the difficulty of trunsh at Barry's Bay wharf existed. The resolution wae then put and carried. Cr Leete aoked if any application had been made to the Railway Department re return tickets for visitora by the Little River railway route. t£is Worship the Mayor aaid that he had communicated with Mr W aite, the Traffic Manager, who had replied that it was altogether too late to stir in the matter this season, but that if application were made early next aeanon it would be fully considered. FALSE ALABSIS. Cr Ingram asked if a resolntion could not be passed regarding inflioting penalties in the event of false alarms of fire being given. 1 1\ Mayor said a by-law would be required and a resolution would be useless. Their by-laws-except that regarding the water supply—were in a very imperfect state and required thorough revision, but that wbrk could hardly be undertaken by a moribund Council that would shortly make way for othet men. No doubt, the new Council would a' once take the whole matter in hand. THH TOWN CLIRK. The Mayor moved—That ten guineas be granted Io the Town Clerk for extra clerical work in connection with the.water eupply, and that his salary be in future £125 per annum. He explained that this meant that in future, Mr Sims would receive no extra emolument—as at preeent—from Commission on dog tax, scavengering and other ratea, but th.t the £125 per annum would be his total sahry. Seconded by Cr Newtotf and carried unanimously.
