AKAROA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A meeting of this Council was held on Wednesday evening. Present —His Worship the Mayor, and Crs Leete, EarnshaW, Munro, Newton, Lalievre, Checkley, and G. Armstrong, jnnr. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous ordinary meeting were read and coufirmed. Correspondence. Outward correspondence was read aud approved. Inward correspondence was read — From the Treasury, stating that the snm of £35 14a 8d had been remitted to the credib of the Akaroa District Fund Account at the Bank of New Zealand, Akaroa. finance. Receipts since laßt meeting—-Rates £15 19s 9d, rent £5 ss, fees £2 10s, subsidy £35 148 Bd, scavengering £1 9s, total £60 18s sd. Credit at Bank, lers Akaroa and Daly's I wharves account £52 6s 3d.
Accounts to be presented—Foreman £4 4s, W. Johnson £3 6s 6d, R. Hammond £2 9s, P. McGuire£l, J. Bell £3 13s, J. S. Dodds lis lOd, J. Hammond £7 19s 6d, J. Bell £2 3s 9d, Akaroa and Wainui Road Board,|rates Is, total £25 8s 7d. The aocounts as read were passed for payment.
works committee's report. The report of the Works Committee was read as under : — A meeting of the Works Committee had been held co consider the specifications for Borough carting. The Committee, after consideration of existing specification, thought that they oould not do better than adopt the same for a further period. It was resolved that tenders be invited for the cartage for the coming year, tenders to be considered at the next meeting. Cr. Checkley moved that the report be adopted. Seconded by Cr. Earnßhaw, Carried.
Wharf Lighting Contract Cr. Checkley proposed that Crs. Munro aud Lelievre be appointed to sign the Wharf Lightihg Contract, and that Cr. Munro be appointed certifying officer under tha wharf * lighting specification. Seconded by Cr. Leete. Carried.
Street Lights. " Cr. Checkley stated that it was not necesBary to light the lamps five nights betore full moon and one after, but he had noticed •"•■ that they had remained uclighted for eight nights. He therefore moved that the Town Clerk write to the contractor pointing out that the street lamps had not been lighted from the 23rd August to Ist September, * and that he wai liable to a penalty of 2i 6d per lamp per night for his negligence. Seconded by C". Newton. Carried.
Cr. Newton moved that Cr. Lelievre be appointed to overlook the street lighting. Seconded by Cr. Leete.
Carried. The meetiug then adjourned,
