FAREWELL MEETING.
One of the'rmst successful gatherings 6ver held in Poit Levy took place at Mr W. 0. Flemiug's woolshed on Tuesday last, the occasion being a farewell to Messrs G. S. Fleming and J. A. Field, who are leavicg the Bay to take up prcpeitiea elaewhere, after a residence of over forty years ia the Bay. Mrs Vγ. Birdling and Mr Tom Power, into who&e haadj the decoratiug had been entrusted, had, by their un king efforts, fairly transformed the woolshed into a fairy bower. The shed was beautifully decorated with ever-greens, flowers, and Chinese lanterns, and on the stage, which had been erected for the occasion, etood the magnificent trophies, which, during thecouraeof the eveniug, were to be presented, addtug considecably to the picturesquenass of the scene. There was no lack of good thiDgs, the bdies of th=j Buy having fahly loaded the tables with delicacies of all sorts. The proceedings were opened with a qaad'ille, and dar.cing was indulged iv until the smail hours of the mornirg, the music baiog kindly provided by Mrs Morris (piano) and Messrs C. Pope and C' Jennings (violins). At 10 o'clock Mr R. E. Hall, chairman of the Road Board, on behalf of the residents, rose and asked for the attention of those present as he bad a most pleasing duty to pat form. In b> few well-choten remarks he piesented Mr G. S. Fleming with a beauti,ml nurble clock and travelliug bag, and Mis F t-niiui; with a lovely opossum rug. Mr J. A. Fiuld was then presented with a bpaut'ful g.uldle, b»iiilo and breastplate and . i-tve Img bag, while Mrs Field wae the rev pie-.t i.i » lovely marble clock. The hit cits wtre suitably inscribed. The reoi.ia-its, in returning thanks, said they would always carry with them most pleasant recollections of their residence in Port Levy, and the kindly neighbours with whom they had teen associated for so many years. The following ladies and gentlemen con. tributed to the evening's amusement -—Mrs Morris, piano solo; Miss Cowao, recitations and song jMr Hall, eong; Mr Morris, aongi (enooted). The proceedings termiotaed with " Auld Laug Syne " end •• God Siva the King."
