AKAROA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A meeting of this Coancil was held on SVednesday evening. Present—His Worship the Mayor and Crs McGregor, Orbell, Penlington and Taylor. MINUTES. The minutes of the prior meeting were read and confirmed. CORKESPONDENCE. Outward correspondence was read and approved. Inward correspondence was read—> From Cr Checkl y, applying for leave of absence on private business, (Granted) From Cr Harrison, applying for leave of absence owing to indisposition, which was granted. From Borough Valuer, notifying revaluation of Mr E. E. Lelievre's pro perty to £1300. (Agreed to.) From Dr. Laing, notifying that the Immigration Barracks were bUU occupied, and that as there were no sanitary arrangements, this occupation was a standing menace to the health of the town.

Cr McGregor said that the Reserves Committee reported as follows :—'' That in reference to the Immigration Barracks the Reserves Committee recommend that the Minister in charge of tho Immigration Department be asked to sell the ,; present buildings, and that the ground occupied by the buildings be levelled and sown down, and added to the grounds of the Hospital;" He moved the adoption, of the report. .Seconded by Cr Orbell and carried. With reference to Dr. Lsing's letter, it was resolved formal notice be given to Mr Sayles to leave the premibes within a .-.week. * From Mr E. F. Lelievre, asking Council to take Mr Bell iD his stead as borough carter. It was decided Mr Lelievre bo written to, telling him Council could not transfer contract, but would »ccept Mr LelievrVs resignation and call for fresh tenders. From Mr W. H. Henning, asking permission to lay drain pipes across Jolie street to carry off storm water from his residence. Referred to Works Committee with power to act. From Mr G. Checkley. applying for few barrow loads of sand and tar for *sphalting purposes at Council's price. Referred to the Works Committee. From Hon. Sec. Athletic Sports Committee, asking permission to erect confectioner's booth on Recreation Ground on Easter Monday. Granted on usual conditions. FINANCE. Receiots since last meeting—Rates, £4 , 9s 4d*; rent, £7 15s ; dogs, =€1 12s Cd ; Road Board, £10 lis 4d ; refund tar, 8s 4d; asphalting, 17s. Total, £25 13s 6d. Dr. to Bank, £44 12s 2d. Accounts to be presented—Mayor, three months, £6 lis 3d ; Clerk, one month, £6 5s ; Foreman, two weeks £4; E. F. Lelievre, cartage, £2 9s 3d ; F. Hahn, two days labour, 14s ; G. Penlington, labour and wharf, £1 2a ; J. Hayward, repairing lamp, etc, 4s ; R. .Goodwin, ironwork, £1 13s lOd ; W. Penlington, sundries, £6 8b 31; J. S. Dodde, 8s 6d ; Penlington and Wol4reys, 12s ; Total, £30 3? Id. The accounts as read were passed for payment. ASFHALTB. Cr Orbell Baid Mr W. H. Henning bad told "him that the foreman had applied to him for 8s for asphalting, and he objected to pay on the ground that some £9 or £10 was doe to the Council from ex-councillors and others for. similar asphalting. The Town Clet'k said that there was not a farthing due by anyone to the Council for asphalting, with the single exception of Mf Henning. SCAVENGE KING. Cr McGregor asked the Chairman of the Sanitary Committee what steps, it any, had been taken to recoup the Council ic# stsaiHStig&tibg done between the; two contracts.
