~ District School Committer. At the monthly meeting ot this Committee held on Tuesday evening, Oct. 6th, iihe members present were Messrs G. T. Sefton (Chairman., J. Wright, D.'Foley, Q. Reynolds, J. Foley and H. Thomas. The master reported the average attendance for the past quarter was 93; that •some improvements to the the outbuild- - ■'ins!s in the schoolground is -that an entertainment in aid of the school **"" treat and prize fund will be given in the Maori Hall on October 16th. Mr GiHing also strongly protested against the £ fiysteui'of [publishing Inspectors reports 'Southe newspapers. Miss Wallace -rerported a decided improvement in the: -attendance at the Side school during the >>past month. The average attendance for the past quarter was 23.71, the •average rdll number. 'being 28. Mr ■Wright proposed, and Mr Foley •seconded, IThat the annual school treat •and distribution of prizes take 'place at the Main school on October 21st, and at the Side bchool on the day following, the ipwzes to be given on lineß similar to thoseof last year, and that the Chairman «be requested to assist the teachers in -selecting the prizes It was decidsd that all arrangements in connection with, the school treats be left in the hands of -the Chairman, and that the necessary! improvements to the back premises of; the school be effected. Mr Foley proposed, seconded by Mr Reynolds, and -carried unanimously, That acordialvote; •of thanks "be given to the Hon. W. Montgomery and also to Mr W. H. Montgomery fer their liberal contributions to the school prize fund. After passing a email acccoant for payment the -meeting closedi ' Cricket Club The*lovers of the fragrant weed have accepted a challenge from the non-, -smokers to cloy a match on the Little »River ground on Saturday 10th inst.. •Considerable interest is being manifested proposed match, which will no doubt be keenly contested. The betting, however, is slightly in favour of the -chalieng:rs. "! Lawn Tennis Cmjb. The formal opening of the Tennis Club will take place at the Little River 1 <<jourts on Saturday, October 17th.

As I saw an account ■of*.the Boating and Cricket Clubs' meetings in the Wml last week,'l have only to mention a meeting which waß held in the Court Bouse last week by i several members of the Tennis Club. The Rev. Pritehett took the-chair, and Miss Buchanan, the Hon. Secretary and 'Treasurer produced a vwy satisfactory balance-sheet, for which she was awarded - a hearty vote of thanks, richly deserved v for all the troubles f-he had to go though. All the officers were elected, 'find a discussion took place on * the question as to whether younger girls- - should be allowed to .become members .> Ibjvas resolved to admit them and set -apart certain afternoons to give them an : -opportunity to practice. Play was tO| commence on Saturday, but an official,, is do be arranged at a future •date. The nsnal compliment t© the chair! terminated the meeting.
