Correspondence will be considered, members appointed to sign Rate Rot l , and lenders accepted for dog collars." HOSPITAL CORRESPONDENCE. In tho absence of Mr Fleming it was resolved to leave over tbis mit'ei till the next meeting. HARKS.. The fo'owing correspondence from the Acclimatisation Society was read: — • Cfii-'t-horoh, 24 h Sept.. 1896. Sir.—l bave to acknowledge receipt of vonr favour of 14th September, in which you ask that the protedi >n be removed from hares intbe Akaroa County on aocoun' of Vie damage bf-ing done. In-.reply I am to st„t=» that tho Council -of this Society i* unable to accede to the request in its ptesent form -, and to ,advise you that in any instance where it can be proved to Hie satisfaction of this Council ihat hnres are a nuisance and are doiog damage, a permit, will be granted to the owner of the property t> destroy hares, and in sunh cases t'tere would b« no necessity t"> waste the onrcasses. If the owner of tho property dil not shoot or destroy the hares himself, a permission would then be given ti any one person deputed by him to Bboot or destroy.— Yours, etc., H. A. Bruce, Secretary. The Council resolved to proceed no further in the matter. The Chairman st-i'ed many hnres were now sent Home inf-iiie frozm shepp. APPLICATION. The following application from Mrs Shadbolt was read : - "Sir, —I beg lo inform yon that I am neither the owner or occupier of lots 2, 7 nnd 8. parts of reserve 57 1; Duvauchelle's. My allotments are No* 3, 10 and 11, parts of the same rural section. Please have the necessary alterations made on the County Rote Hoi', ns I am owner and occupier of these last named allotment*." After long discussion it was resolved to leave the matter over for the present. HILL TOP RESERVE. The following correspondence was read : " Lands and Survey Department, '« Wellington. August 26. 1896. •'Sir,—l have tlie honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the Bth inst., in which practically you demur at paying Mr Brookes the £37 16a wbirh iti< said is the value of the improvements effectad by him on reserve 1259, recently handed over to your County. I am directed by the Mini-tar of Lands to point out that v was certainly au honourable undertaking on your part that you should pay whatever Mr Brookes was equitably ont ; tled to; and the Minister thinks that you should not now sbi'k this responsi • bility.—Yours, &c., "A. BARRON, Under-Sacretary." Held over in Chairman's absence. S\LE~YARDS COMPANY 8 DRAIN. The Clerk reported he had oalied attention to damage dono to road by this drain, An. answer hr.d bnon received from the Sncretaiy of the Sale-yard* Co. ft ting the drain could be cleared oat at the Councils esperise. Tho Clerk said ho had seen Mr Stewart, a director of the company, and he had said he -would see to the mot'er, but nothing had been done. The C'erk was depufed to wait on the S»le«y&rds Company at their meeting on Fiiday next. DOG COLLARS. The following tenders for dog collars

Accounts amounting tj £139 7s 8d were passed for payment. PIPER'S BRIDGE; The Engineer reported he had arrineed with Messrs Jno. Anderson & Go. for t 'in bridge for ironbark timber at -6«, »nd iron work at per lb. The queH ion of planking, &c, was left in the Engineer's bands; and it was resolved to call for tenders for the b'iige, to be in by next meeting. The Couocil adjourned to Oct. 24 b. . ..
