LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL August. 27.
The Public Petitions Co n mittee made no report in reference to the petition of the Midland Railway Company. The Joint Statutes Revision Committee recommend that the M&rtgages Bill should not be allowed to proceed. Amendments with regard to Methodist Church Property Trusts were reported. A discussion took: place on the refusal of the Government to present to tbe Governor memorials for letters of naturalisation by Chinese. Tlm Law Practitioners and New Zealand Law Society Act Amendment Bill was amended and reported, as was the Infant Life Protection Bill. ■The Asiatic Restriction Bill was considered in Committee and reported. The Gisborne Harbour Board Empowering Bill was read a second time. AUGUST 28. The Police Offences Act Amendment Bill, dealing with the dehorning of cattle, was killed. The Dunedin Garrison Hall Bill was committed. The Municipal Corporations, Monnt Wellington and Thomas Morrin Biils passed their final ''stages; The Female Law Practitioners Bill passed its second reading, and the debate on the Criminal Code (Chemis) Bill was adjourned.
