London, July 29. The Australian RstnN /Mortgage Coapany is issuing 400.000 5 per cent debentures at 97, for the purpose of acquiring further properties. AsWl as those mentioned, Colonel White wis sentenced to five months' imprisonment.

A Parliamentary Committee has been appointed to enquire into tbe changes desirable in the Government of the Chartered Company's territory. Mr Hawkesley, solicitor to the Chartered Company, in a letter to the Press states that he informed the Treasury that Mr Rhodes was ready to stand his trial in London. The Times considers that this assurance need not cause surprise, as virtuallj Mr Rhodes had no option. His position, however, differs from those whose sentences were commuted, as Mr Rhodes had committed no avert act. though he might be privy to the acts ef others.

The attendance was again very large today in 'he match against Surrey. General Cnrrington reports that the want of men hampers the rapid and eff 'C ual crushing of the Matabele, and even if more were sent he would be unable to feed them owing to the difficulty of transport. All effort? will now be directed to secure supplies bafore the rains set in.

A riot occurred in the street of Zurich owing to the Swiss suspecting that a workman had been murdered by Italians. A fight took place, and seventy men were arrested in consequence.
