THE ENGLISH CEMETERY ROAD.

Eon somo tfnie past it has been pretty evident to those who take, their walks abroad in the neighbourhood of the Cemetery, that the new approach thereto is a mistake. If any doubts -till lingered on the subject, the recent heavy rains have given a very distinct affirmative answer to the question. The road is now impassable, and should unfortunately any of us be called to our rest, our friends, would require to carry us by the oIJ road so many of the forefathers of the hamlet have gone before In these columns attention has frequently be-called to tbe defec ive state of the entrance to the Cemetpry, and tbe churchward ns tbok the matter up with a view to curing its defects* Their intentions and tbe money expended have unfortunately been practically wasted by the road being carried further up the hill, with a view, it is said, tv lead to the centre of the Cemetery, the rise required to do this causing an unnecessary increase of grade.

The angle at which the road leaves the Beach road is also objectionable, and the whole affair reflects anything but credit on those concerned. The clay arid slips from the new road have been in trfe unceremonious manner shot over the bank at the public baths, and completely wrecked the fence of that useful establishment. It can surely never be the business of one public body to destroy the creations of another, and the Borough Council are greatly to blame f»r allowing rubbish to be shot into their baths. The site and' construction of the

present bnths have, ever since their erection, ''been "anythiiig but satisfactory— probably the Cemetery authorities, in » rftsrod of grim humour, intend to bnry' them.

Having, in the of a pnhl : c ! fJutyi, dratvn attention to the subject, we trust this, blundering wiil ceato.
