PEN-INS l/L. A. CUP MATCHES (Train's v. Leßon's.

The fi-st meeting between the above clubs in the cup matches took place on Wednesday last at Okain's. The vyeather wns perfect, and a very enjoyable game resulted.

Le Bon's kicked off, and play soon started in their territory, ■ scrums being the order of the day, and the visitors were forced down, Shortly after R. Mcintosh got over the lino, and took the kioU, bnt failed to convert it, and the score then stood Okain's 3, Le Bon's nil. Play now became very last, emd some good passing was indulged in by the Okain's backs, Corsbie showing up in good form. From a scram in the Le Bon's 25. Mcintosh passed to Marriott, who, after a i.e:.t dodgy run, succeeded in scoring. The kick was sgain a failure, score being 6to nil. Le Bon's now woke up, and play was shifted to the middle of the field, and nothing further eventuated when half time was called.

In the second spell the Blacks made the game a fast one, and after somp pretty passing between R. Mcintosh, Marriott and Corsbie, the latter scored, but could not manage to place the leather over the bir, so 9 points to nil was registered. Shortly after, Marriott, with a pretty run again scored. P, Mora took the kick and lauded a goal,- making score 14 to nil, and things only middling for le Bon's. Pb>y then shifted down to the homo team's 25, and they were forced twice, but Le Bon's were soon in trouble again, and after a scrum close to home quarters J. -Thacker ..pnssed to his brother Chris., and the latter got another try for the ©lacks, which Fluerty succeeded in converting, score being 19 to nil. Nothing further of note took place till just before the call of time, wh°n J. Mcintosh secured a mark, from which J. Smith landed a a rather neat; goal just 'as Vhe whistle blew, leaving Okain's victorious by 10 peints to 4.

Mr H. Mcintosh acted as referee, and gave general satisfaction. , The game was a fast ono, tbe passing of the Okain's backs being very good indeed, Corsbie. Marriott and Mcintosh doing good work. In the first part of the game P. Mora acted as full-back, and later on exchanged with W. Ware at three.quarter. Both did good service, Mora's kicking being very. good. R. Haitley showed up prominently jrt the first spell. The forwards all worked hard, 0. and J, Thacker on the wing, and C. Holstein in the scrums being a tower of strength to their side. The visitors played.a good, uphill grime, and had the disadvantage of being a man short. \t full-back, B. Mora, though rather deficient in taking the ball cleanly, often gained ground for his side by good kicking. J. Oldridge and Leonardo had a lot to doj and acquitted themselves well, as did J. Mcintosh. Henderson and T. Mcintosh also played a good game.

Akaroa v Okain's' Bay,

The first cup match between the above teams took place at Akaroaon Saturday before a good crowd of spectators. Owing to the recent rains, the ground was in a bad condition, and rendered good play impossible. The day, however, was all th it could be desired. Mr W. G. Garrard, ot Chrisfehurch, was referee, and, his. prompt and decisive rulings gave every satisfaction.

Thacker won the toss, and elected to defend the northern goal. At'■•..abbot' 3 15 Newborn, kicked off for, Akaroa. After a good deal of pb.y near the centre, the forwards got away with a good dribble and threatened to score. The ball, however, went into touch; From the line-out Okain's broke away with a rush. After this a good deal af give and take play took rl.ee. A breach of the rules by an Okain's man gave Akaroa a free-kick in front of the goal. Bamford took thekickWd placed a nice goal, making score 3 points to nil. After the kick-off, a good deal of long l kicking took place. Brirnford kicked a go al from the pace Score 11points to 8 Shortly after this no-side was called with the ball in neutral territory. Akaroa thus won by 8 points.

The game was a very exciting one. For Okaiu's Fenton, C. Thacker, Wore aud Mcintosh played well ; while for Akaroa the pick of the forwards were fthndbolt, Newbigani, Kearney and Goodwin. Bamford played his usual dashing game at half. The ether bocks had little to do, wi h the excepton ol Helbert, who performed very creditably at full-back. Cup match s won last week :—July 15— -Okain's beat Le Bon's bj 19 to 4 July IS—-Little Akaloa beat Le Bon's, by 3 to nil, and Akarpa beat Ukain's by 11 to S. The following matches have' yet to be played before the first round of cup matches is finished .—-Wairewa v.; Little Akaloa at Little Akaloa, Akaroa v. Le Bon's at Le Bon's. These will probably, be played off this week.

On Thursday afternoon a game will be played on the Recreation ground between the Akaroa second fifteen and a team from German Bay. The Akaroa team will be as follows:—Fullback, P. McGuire ; three quarters, Cullen, A. Narbey and J. Uae five-eights, Malmrrnche; half, W. Hemingway ;. forwards, St pies, Wright, Forbes, Ryan, Lelievre, Henning, White, Paurini and Whelch. Emergencies—A; Narbey and S. Lelievre.

dn Saturday the trial match prior to seelcting the PeninsuH team to play the Canterbury Representatives will be played on the Akaroa ground.
