A riot on an extensive scile occurred at Brunswick yesterday, arising indirectly ou: of the twelfth ot July celebration. In the ear'y pm lof the week an Orange procession was prohibited, and a good deal of ill-feeling was aroused. A number of Orangemen proceeded in small parties to the meeting place. An advettisement was inserted in Saturday's newspapers convening a meeting of Irishmen on vacant land on the route along which the Orangemen would pass It was called ostensibly to discuss the Irish question, but row, the. public to tho number of twenty, five thousand turned up, and the riot commenced with the approach of a drag containing a number of Orangemen, who were mobbed and the colours torn from their breasts. As different parties camo along they were violently attacked with stones, knocked down and severely maltreated. Free fights in the crowd became general, and for three hours the battle raged. Many were injured by showers of stones, but none seriously One woman had a narrow escape, and was only saved by a number of men forming a circle and beating off the mob. Fifty police were unable to cope with the mob, but a number of ..rrests were made after the rioters dispersed.
