The second reading of the Adulteration Prevention Acta Amendments Bill, a measure designed to prevent short weight in tinned loorte. butter, &c. by providing fhat the miisinuim weight of tile contents should be stated on the tins, &c,., containing articles of food was earned.

The second reading of the Medical Practitioners' Reeistration Act Amendment Bill, providing that the course of medical study should be of five years'duration, instead of three as at present, was carried. Mr Stevens wished to ascertain the aotual position of the colony wiih regard to the Midland Railway Company '■"' June 24.

The Hon. W. C. Wa'ker gave notice 'to add the Hons H. Feldwick and J". Rigg to the committee proposed to be set up to inquire into the circumstances connected with the passing of the recent banking legislation. Some discussion took place regarding the Midland Hailway,and the papers and documents referring to the proposed transfer of the control of Norfolk Island to New Zealand were ordered to be laid on the table of the Council. The Municipal Corporations Act Amendment Bill, Contagious Diseases Act Repeal Bill, and Asiatic Immigration Restriction Bill were read a first time. Tbe Police Offences Act Amendment Bill, which deals with /the question -of dehorning cattle, was read a second time and referred to the Stock Committee, and the Divorce Act Amendment Bill, int'oduced by the Hon W. Bolt, was thrown out by 16 to 13. The Imprest SupplyBill WoS passed through all its stages.
