> The firet cap match was played at Akaroa last Saturday between the Akaroa* and Wairewa Clubs.; The weather was very bad for football, and the ground was in a very muddy and ejippery state. Both teams started playing with 13 men a side >for aboat ten minutes, when they played with their fall complement. Wairewa, won the toss, and decided to defend the north goal. Soon after the kick off Wight ecored for Akafoa, and then tries came in quick succession, and it was easily: Been tba.t Akaroa were too strong fof their.opponents, and at half-time the score stood at Akaroa 32 SVairewa nil.
In the second spell * Akaroa iflded'27 poiats to their score, and event<ua)ly won the match by 59 1 points 4o nil. " r The following soorfed tries for■ j&karoe: r— Wight and • Vangioni "'■& ; eaeti, Hem* ingway, 3. Glynan, Goodww and;Bamford two each, Kefirney, Tfipe iend P. Glynan one each, making 17 from which only four goals were kicked, two by J. Glynan ani/twb by Bamford. The play on bofh was very good indeed, considering, the state of, the ground, and Helbert at full-back played a splendid >game, his kicking being class.
