A match wos played "n the Uacecourse, i.ittlo ; jver, between the above teams. The refereeing was v.«*r'y bad,, completely spoiling the game. Wairewa was handicapped owing to Williams falling from his horse, and Birdling being in bad form. The following will represent Wairewa in a match with Lakeside oh the Racecourse on Saturday next :—Buchanan, Watkins (2), Ryde, Birdling, Cope, WillLms, Davis, Whale, Tini, Kiui, Hutchinson, iStevens, Wake-field and Robinson. Emergencies—Marsh, Barclay, Nutt and Barlow, The game commences at 2 o'clock. The same team will probably play Akaroa on the following Saturday.

We'have received the following correspondence :—

t-ir, —I notice Mr Wight still persists in evading the subject to which I allude I will ask Mr Wight if he did not ask me to refer anything to the Union which I did not agree to. This I have done, but perhaps Mr Wight thinks that the opinion of the Rugby Union would be different from the answer givcD by the editor of the Referee. If he thinks so he is mistaken, as the editor gets all information direct from the Union. If Mr Wight cannot accept an adverse opinion to one held by himself I am sorry for him. My argument is that the Referee can placo ihe ball in scrum if the captains agree ,to same. He also says that in future whoever loses will be able to accept same in proper manner, Now, I think Lo Bon's can take a beating, if fairly fought out, with any team, Akaroa included, as a beating by the latter with their number of men to choose from and years of practise, would be no disc-race to a team of one year's standing with onlyJ-18 playing members, including boys, i even if the score were 20 points to nil. | Mr Wight may please himself whether he answers tin's or not, but what mor-- I have to say I will keep till such time as we may meet.—Yours etc.,
