ARBOR DAY.

A meeting of the Committee was held on Saturday evening >n thn O.ldfellown Hall side-room. Mr Penlington presiding. It wae reeolved that 100 native trees should be planted this year by the children attending the Borough and High Schools on the dny appointed by the Government, viz , Thursday, August 4th. . The ;Chai<man and Messrs McGregor, E. E. Lelievre. Jacobson and E. F. Lelieyre were appointed a sub-Committee to arrange getting the ground prepared and the frees, Mr McGregor stating, he had received dfliere of practical assistance from many ;residente, It wae meet at 10.30 a.m. on the day to be celebrated, and each be presented with a ticket, a duplicate of which would be fastened to the trees to be planted. The planting was then to take place onder the superintendence of practical people, after which refreshments and games should be given in the schools, the" youngsters returning to.their homes early in ~<he evening. The arrangements with regaid to the children and the refreshments'were left in the hands of Mrs E. Fanned, Misses Henderson and Dawber, and the other Indies of the Committee. Yesterday was appointed as a day to meet and select localities on the Cemetery Road most suitable for the planting of the trees, but owing to the bad weather there was no attendance. Those who were to have come, are requested to put in an appearance fct the Mail Office punctually at 2 o'clock to-day. Further particulars will appear in Friday's issue.
