United Bays O.C. V. Akaroa CC,

? The third match this season between tho 8 above Clubs took place on Saturday lastjn Mrs Shadbolt's paddock, Duvauchelle's Bay, 5 kindly lent for tbat occasion by tbat lady. 1 The weather was all that could be desired. * As will be seen by tbe scores, Snow's bat- ' ting and bowling was altogether too much for the Akaroa team, he taking seven . wickets in the first innings and six in the second, and a one innings defeat was the result. A start was made at 12 o'clock, and the United Bays having won the toss, * decided upon taking the field, and A. Spurr • and W. Shadbolt were sent in to face the I bowling of Snow and Bates. The innings s opened well, Shadbolt getting a four and i a three off Snow's first two balls, but the , latter soon, retaliated by clean bowling him. \ Mellsop followed, but afler making a 5 couple also had to retire to Snow ; and A. • Munro shared a similar fate without scor- ' ing. Judd was nex* man in, but wns , caught by A. Birdling before he bad added ! anything to the score; and Rawlinson, who followed, had to Buccumb to Snow for , nothing. Parsons.was caught by Baker for a similar total; and Hewer was run out for naught. Spurr, who had jyte nine, was then caught by A. ) Collett was joined by Miles, when the former, after making one, was caught by Snow. W. Watkins, the last man, took Collett's place, but before be bad a chance to score, Miles was bowled by Snow, ssd the innings closed for 25. including 6 extras. The United Bays then went in, Shadbolt and Bates facing the trundling of Mellsop and Judd, Shadbolt by Mellsop before making-any. and Bajfli took his place, but the latter, after making four, was clean bowled by Judd. Snow went in. and batted the rest of the. over, and it being one o'clock, an adjour_man_ was mode-to ihe Somerset Hotel, where an excellent lunch bad been provided by Host Cooper. After lunch Snow and Batea agairi went to the wickets, when Bates, who had made throe, was caught by Judd. W. Giddens followed, but after making one was caught by Collett. Anson joined Snow, who was batting freely, and ft" short stand was made, but Anson, after making a couple of three*-, was bowled by Judd. A. Birdling followed, but had to.retire to Rawlinson without scoring ; and G. Giddens was bowlnd by Judd before he had made any. E. Spurr, after making d couple, was also bowled by Judd ; and P. Granger was also caught by Munro for naught. H. Piper, the last man, made five, when Snow," who had by this time made 43, including a five and several threes, by good cricket, was bowled by Molleop, with the total at 82. including 18 extras. There still being time, Akana j again went to the wickets, but with very little better luok than last time. W. Shad-

bolt and W. Watkins went in first, and after making fonr, Shadbolt retired to one of Anson's slows. Judd came next, when Watkins was caught by E. Spurr for four. Rawlinson joined the captain, but the latter was 'caught by Anson without scoring. Munro followed, but Rawlinson, who had not made any, was bowled by Snow. Mellsop took bis place, but one of Anson's proved too many for him, and be had to retire with naught. Spurr followed, when Munro, who had made four. waß bowled by Snow. Parsons joined Spurr, but Snow got into tbe former's timber before he had scored. Hewer went in and made one, when he was caught by Snow. Collett was caught by Giddens for naught, and Miles, the last man, came in and hnd made five, when Spurr was bowled by Snow for t, nine. The fielding of both teams was very that of tbe United Bays particularly "-- so. For the latter Mr Snow both batted and bowled splendidly, and Mr Anson also bowled well. For Akaroa, Judd and Mellsop both bowled well. A. Spurr's useful scores and stubborn defence in both innings show what a useful cricketer he may become with more practise. Mr Snow being the highest scorer, therefore takes the set of wickets kindly presented by Mr Cooper to the highest scorer on the winning side. Appended are the scores :— AKABOA.
