Funeral of Dr. WATKtNS —The funeral of the lati Dr. Watkins took place yesterday afternoon. A large number of gentlemen from various districts followed the remains, and the Rev. Stuck read the funeral service.

Tblegkaphtc.—The wires being down between Akuroa and Christchurch, none of our telegrams have reached us. The line broke down suddenly between twelve and one o'clock yesterday, whilst a messaje was in transmission to Mr Gartvood, the address being the only part that readied that gentleman.

Regatta Committjsb Meeting.— Special attention is called to the fact that the Regatta Committee Meeting is called toi to-morrow evening. It is hoped that members of the Committee who have any desire to do their share of the work will put in an appearance as tho time L-sgTOwin? short.

Akauoa Rowing Club.—A meeting of the above club was held, at the Mail office on Wednesday, Mr Henning in the clinic. The Secretary read the minutes of the annuil meeting, which were confirm ;d. Mr Honning w:is appointed to sign cheques, and the Chairwas authorised to procure a couple of o.irs and other necessaries for the boat. Accident. —Mr A. Phillips, of Germau Bay, met with a rather serious accident when returning from attending Dr. Watkins' tuner il yesterday. On the German Bay Hill ho fell a little behind some gentlemen he was riding with, and the next tiling they saw was his horse cantering towards them. Going back at once, they found Mr Phillips lying' insensible on the road, one! saw by the marks t'iat he had been dragged by the horse some twenty yards. Tub Dissenters Cemeteuy—Messrs David Fyfe, Alexander Robert Munro, Thomas Perm, nnd Campbell Brown have been appointed trustees for the Akaroa Dissenters Cemetery.

The Concert To-night.—Special attention is called to the concert which takes place to-night at the Oddfellows' Hall, in ai.l of the funds of tho Presbyterian Church. The pro ramme, which will be found in our advertisement columns, is a long nnd varied one, and promises a really pleasant evening to all who attend. We hope to see a large housi , . Board of Health- —As will be seen by the Borough Council report (who sit as a Board of Health), a patient suffering from a pronounced type of typhoid fever, has been brought into the town, and is now lying in the immigration barracks. Dγ White has carefully isolated the caso to prevent infection, but we will point out that householders should be extremely careful to what water they drink, and in keeping their drains clean. The present rapid growth caused by the heat of the weather after the late copious rains is very likely to develope the germs of disease without ordinary precautions are used.

The Mayoral Election. —The election passed off more quietly than was anticipated, rumors of opposition being current throughout the town. At noon on Wednesday, the appointed hour, Mr Thos. Adams was duly nominated by Messrs Henning and liissel, and being the only Richmond in the field at noon, was declared duly elected. On the resuit being made known by the Returning Officer, His Worship the Mayor said that lie was much obliged to the ratepayers for the honor clone him in re-electing him for another year of office. He had had no in'ention of standing again for the office, but had acceded to the request of the influential deputation that had waited upon him, and guaranteed his return. He was aware that he was by no means perfect as a publio man, but in the future, as in the past, he would strive to do his duty honestly and to the b.st of his ability. Mr Henning then expressed his satisfaction at Mr Adams having acceded to their request, and wa« sure that all present would thank him for having done so. After a few hearty cheers for His Worship the ratepayers separated.
