PRESBYTERY OF CENTRAL OTAGO
The Central Otago Presbytery met at Alexandra last Thursday, the Moderator, the Rev I). R. Madill, presiding. The Moderator welcomed the RevDr J. D. Salmond, Youth Director of the Church, who was visiting Alexandra, and also the Rev J. C Doig, of Cromwell who was attending "his first meeting of the Presbytery. New Moderator
The Rev P. Anderson, B.Sc, of Queenstown, was elected Moderator of Presbytery for the ensuing year, and installed in office by the retiring Moderator.
Presbytery Communion Service The Annual Communion Service of the Presbytery and the Presbyterial Association was conducted ■in St ■ Enoch's Church by The retiring Moderator, his assisting Elders being Messrs R- Gibson and H. Thomson. Becks Church and School
Mtr H. Thomson, of Omakau, reported that the public school at Becks had been burned down, and was without accommodation. Presbytery recommended to the BecksLauder Management Committee that the use of the Church be offered to the Education Board until such time as a new school can be built, provided the Church is available for Churcli functions when required../ 0r J- *>• Salmond, who was present at the meeting, spoke of the excellent relations that prevailed between School and Church authorities throughout Otago, and gave as his opinion that the move suggested by Presbytery would serve to enhance those good relations.
Church Rise In Status The Mt. Ida (Ranfurly) parish had now found it possible to be sellsupporting, and consequently had gained the right to call its own minister, stated Mr R. Gibson to the Presbytery. At a congregational meeting which he had convened, the wish had been expressed by the people that a call should be given to the Minister under whose leadership the parish had made this rise in status In consequence, he was placing before Presbytery a Call to the Rev G. Morrison Yule, BA-, who had been appointed to the charge in 1942. Mr Harraway, Session Clerk of the Mt Ida Parish spoke in support of the Call, stating that he was pleased to report the great interest and sincere desire ot the people to retain Mr Yule as their Minister. Mr Syme, an elder from Ranfurlv, spoke of the appreciation the people felt for the work that had been done by Mr Yule m the past three years, and their desire that he should now become the chosen pastor of the flock. Presbytery congratulated the parish on its rise in statue, and congratulated Mr Yule on the valuable work he had done in the parish and the Presbytery Clerk. Presbytery agreed to place the Call in Mr Yule's hands, and decided to hold a Service of Recognition of New Status in the Church at Ranfurly on March ibth. The Rev R. R. Welsh The Rev G- M. Yule, Interim Moderator for the Ida Valley parish, reported that all arrangements had been made for the appointment ot the Rev R. R. Welsh to the* charge. Details of the appointment had been approved,' and Presbytery agreed to hold the service of Ordination and Induction in the Church at Oturehua on March 27thBible Class Easter Camp Plans were well in hand tor the Easter Camp to be held in Alexandra for the young people of Central Otago, stated the Rev G- Dallard, convener of the Presbytery's Youth Committee. The Rev and Mrs G- M. Sullivan, of Gaversham, would be Canlp Father and Mother. Detailed information and application forms would shortly be sent out to the ministers of the Presbytery for distribution to the Bible Classes. It was hoped that there would lie 100 young people in Camp. Visit of Youth Worker Sister Elizabeth Campbell, deaconess and Youth Worker of the Presbyterian Church, was introduced to the Presbytery. Sister Campbell would spend four months in Central Otago, stated the Youth Convener, the Rev G. Dallard She would assist in developing the Youth Work of the parishes, and conduct Children's Missions where possible. She would be glad to address meetings of parents, and meet children in isolated places where attendance at Sunday School was impossible.
