VINCENT HOSPITAL BOARD

The monthly meeting of the Board was held in Ihe County Offices, Clyde on Wednesday, 15 April, the following members being present: Messrs J.Ritchie (Chair), 1). S. Middleton, J. Swann, \V. Jclley, S. A. Stevens, W. Brinpans, G. T. Alexander, J. Me Knight and C- J. Spain. Before commencing the business of the meeting the Chairman made reference to the death recently of Dr G. A. Morris, who had for a period of 25 years up to 1911 been MedScal Officer at Cromwell In addition to his Hospital work Dr Morris' Medical duties covered all the District surrounding Cromwell and extended as far as Pembroke. The whole of the Doctor's visiting work in this widely-spread (district was carried out with a horse and gig. T oi|withstanding\ the often difficult conditions under which patJients' treatment was carried on at that time, Dr Morris had always given faithful and efficient service.— A motion of regret and sympathy with the relatives was passed in the usual manner. The Hospital Boards' Association forwarded a copy of the General Order of the Court of Arbitration for an increase in the rates of pay prescribed in Awards, Industrial [Agreements etc jto take effect from 7th April, 1942, which provides for male adults who receive an award wage of £5 per week or more limited to 5/- per week increase. Female adults who receive an award wage of £2/10 per week or more limited to 2/6 per week increase. Junior male or female workers (under 21 years) who receive an award wage of £l/10 per week or more limited to 1/6 per week increase. All other workers to receive 5 per cent .increase on the actual wage paid.

The purchase of bucket pump Fire Extinguishers for Cromwell and '.Dunstan Hospitals was approved. •i 5

The Wanaka District Doctors Club advised that an agreement had been made between the Club's Medical Officer and the Health Department in respect of Medical Benefits as from Ist December, 1941, and the Board's subsidy to the Club would not be required after that date.

The Otago Hospital Board advised that 4 Vincent patients had been discharged from Dunedin Hospital during the past month. No notifications of admission had been received.

The Waipiata Sanatorium Committee advised that the patients' fees payable by the Associated Boards for the year ending 31st March, 1943, had been fixed at 4/6 per day per patient. > Tne Acting/Matron, Dunstan Hospdt,al, forwarded returns of patients under treatment for the month of March as follows: —23 admitted; 34 discharged; 1 death; 19 remaining at March 31st. With reference to the proposal of* the Nurses 1 and Midwives Registration Board to approve of Grom-

well Hospital as a Training School for Nursing Aids, it was decided that the Board's application be held over until Dr Austin had interviewed Dr Shore and Miss Lambie of the Health Department with regard to the system of lectures for Trainees laid down in the Regulations. The Treasurer's Statement of Receipts and Payments for 12 months ended 31st March 1942 showed Actual Maintenance Receipts £13830 compared with the Estimates £l4, 212. Actual Maintenance Payments for the year totalled £l4llß compared with the Estimates £13853. At 31st March there was a Debit balance on Maintenance A/c of £640/17/10. Capital Receipts for 12 months ended 31/3/42 were £2OBI compared with the Estimates £2169 • Capital payments for the year totalled £1731 compared witli the Estimates £1770. At 31st March there was a Debit balance of £4B/3 on Capital A/c At 15/4/42 here was a Debit balance of £sll/ 2/2 on Current A/c at the Bank. Accounts and Salaries for the month totalling £1309/18/0 were passed for payment. Emergency Hospital Committee In view of the probable difficulty in obtaining tradesmen for work on the Emergency Hospitals, if the requisitioning of these buildings is necessary at any time, it Was decided to write the Health Department suggesting an arrangement whereby tradesmen could be immediately released by the Man-Power Officer if required for the -work;' •■■■<■' -■ f m-
