ENGAGEMENT.

MISS AEOHA CLIFFOBD. Miss Aroha Clifford, whose engagement is announced, is the youngest daughter of Mr Walter Clifford, of Eendalton, Qhristchurch. Miss Clifford, who is known throughout New Zealand as a most competent aviatrix, has interested !herself in aviation fbr many years. She' was the first woman member of the Canterbury Aero Club to become a pilot. She is a fully-quali-fied ground engineer, having taken a course in England at the De Haviland works. Miss Clifford has done a considerable amount of flying throughout New Zealand, having on more than one occasion piloted her 'plane across Cook Strait to traverse the North Island. When visiting England she tried out the auto gyros, and it was suggested at one time that she would fly from England to Australia in one, and perhaps to New Zealand. Miss Clifford owns her own 'plane, and is the only woman in New Zealand to have a Puss Moth. Miss Clifford is also keenly interested in mountaineering, having achieved some of the moat difficult climbs in tho Mount Cook region. Her fiance, Mr Alf Brustad, is well-known among alpinists.
