j Alexandra 9, Clyde-Earnscleugh 0. i 0 The first Vincent Sub-union fixture 1 y was played by Alexandra at Clyde on i Saturday, Clydfc-Eanisclcugh team ! r being beaten by a superior back 3 division by 9 points to nil. The fors wards were fairly evenly matched., A i good deal of loose play was noticeable i at the beginning of the game and.the a home team appeared to have the ad- . vantage in this department. However, 1 later in the game the frequent line-outs were invariably ia Alexandra's favour. Beilby played a very sound game behind the scrum and made a good opening for M'Phail to score the first try. The latter is a decided acquisition to the Greens' backs. He uses his head and runs straight, two points which a five-eight must do to be of any use to his side. The tackling of the Alexandra backs had something to do with the disorganisation of the home team. Thomson aiid Finlay, the 'wingthreequarters, have speed, and this'pair should register many tries during the 1930 season. Thomson has a good boot too and kicked a penalty goal in the second half. Prominent; among the Green forwards were Noble and Lawry. For the home team Larking was the best of the forward division, anci James was the best of the back division. The points scored were: Thomson (an unconverted try), M'Phail (an unconverted try), Thomson (a-penalty goal). Mr A. Dewar (Cromwell) -was an' efficient referee. '■■■.■. >. Cromwell 17, Wanaka 10. In the second half it looked as if the' visitors were going to pull the game off but good defensive- work by the Jiouie backs kept the score down. Matakanui 32, Poolburn 0; 1 Matakanui met a very weak combination on Saturday. Poolburn was at full strength and Matakanui played short. Despite this fact the homo side put up a cricket score against the visitors. Mr G.'Campbell was the re : ; force. ',-,.- ■- SECOND GRADE. ' ' : Clydc-Earnscleugh B v. Alexandra B.
