CHATTO CREEK NOTES.

The present winter has so far been a very mild one and stock owners have nothing to complain about as stock are in good condition and could stand up of a spell of rough weather. So far we have had very little frost and as the shortest day is past the winter should not be a long one. There is much satisfaction expressed by irrigators in giving relief (up to a certain point) in the fixing of water charts by the P.W. Department. It certainly gives settlers more confidence to carry on under the new scale Nif charges. Everyone had doubts about carrying on under the old agreement. Bunny has been harassed for some months with traps, gnns, ferrets, poison etc., on the surrounding runs and should be about extinct. A few hares are in evidence on some of the farms.

Mr A. C. Rcoular, who some time ago sold his freehold Matnkanui homestead, has had a very fine residence erected on his' run in Devonshire Creek, at the head of Chatto Creek. It has all modern conveniences and the surroundings will be nice when trees, shrubs, etc. grow up.

The School Committee has commenced the usual fortnightly euchre and dance parties which are being well patronised.

The recently-formed " Manuherikia " Brass Band, from Ophir, propose holding an entertainment here shortly and hope that residents will turn out and make it the success it deserves. A brass band is a great asset to any district and should get plenty of support financially.

The employees erecting the poles for the Central Otago Electrie Power Board's extension to Matakanui, are making good progress and will reach Omnkau any day now. The roads are in good order about here since the Wehr grader made its appearance in the district. One or two bad bends could, at very little eost be straightened out.
