OTAGO CENTRAL ELECTRIC POWER BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Power Board was held at Alexandra on Tuesday of last week when there wer*e present: Messrs W. Black (chairman), W. Bringans, Charles Weaver, S. T. Spain, G. Wishart and C. C. Sanders. , A letter was received from the Government Loans Baard advising that, as a result of representations made by Mr W. A. Bodkin, M.P., the board had authorised the payment of engineers ,! expenses and supervision out of loan money in connection with the Matakanui extension.

The""_ following is an outline of the • engineer-manager's *• report:— A small amount of maintenance work has been required in trimming trees and fuse replacements at transformers. One shutdown occurred at midday on June 1. It was due to a branch of a tree at. Eruitlands falling on to the lines and shorteiircuiting when the frost thawed.'This tripped back to Boxburgh. | The following flay Alexandra trippt* out alone. The fault was then located I and removed. A switch'has now been installed at Cromwell. It enables the district beyond to be cut out without affecting Cromwell. This will be an advantage when any trouble occurs beyond Cromwell borough and will enable Cromwell to remain' in circuit while repairs are being effected. The contractor has started wiring work in Oinakau township. He has nearly completed this and will be commencing to work in the country towards Alexandra shortly.

Construction work Ims been in progress for a week. Pole erection lias been started along the Springvale section and has passed Mr Gartley's farm along the main road to Chatto Creek. Some difficulty has been experienced by the non-arrival of pole bolts and insulators, but word has been received; that these are. on the "way and will I arrive shortly. The wiring gang has been busy, with the Earnscleugh-Alex-andra section at night time, and on the Manuherikia section in the afternoon;/ Another shipment of poles is arriving, leaving only a small balance to complete the order. ■

-Accounts amounting to £2753 12s 2d were passed for payment.
