PERSONAL.

The Hon. W. A. Veiteh and Miss Veitch while in Alexandra, stayed at the Criterion Hotel. # The Alexandra Postmaster (Mr K. G. Simpson) left yesterday morning for the North Island where he will spend his annual holidays. Mr Simpson will be away for a month. Mr E. Russell is acting postmaster. Mt and Mrs Bobert M'lntosh, of Disputed Spur, have taken up residence in Alexandra. Mr and Mrs Harold Preston left Alexandra yesterday and will spend the Easter holidays in Christchurch. Mr and Mrs E. J. lies were in Alexandra on Monday last. Mr Harley Cook, manager of the Bank of New Zealand, at Queenstown, has returned home after spending a short holiday. Miss Noel and Jule O'Kane are now in Dunedin. Miss J. O'Kane is taking a course at the Otago University. Miss Noel O'Kane will return to-night. Miss Black, who has been very seriously ill, is, we are pleased to say, greatly improved this last few days, her temperature chart now showing normal. Miss Black is being nursed by her sister, Miss H. Black, of the Clyde Hospital staff. The sad news of the death of Master Varney, the son of the health inspector, came to hand this morning. We extend our deepest sympathy. During the week Miss L. Hannay, who will be married at Easter time, lias been the guest at several evenings in and around the town. Miss G. Taylor tendered a bathroom evening at Conroys, last Wednesday and an enjoyable time Was spent by the 30 odd young people in dancing. The guest' of the evening was the recipient of many useful presents. On Thursday Mrs W. Hesson entertained Miss L. Hannay to a kitchen evening. The dining room was cleared and decorated in coloured streamers. There were present a fair number of friends who passed the time away happily in song, dance and story. Miss Hannay received an assortment of kitchen utensils. Mr J. Hannay, on behalf of the recipient, thanked the donors. On Saturday afternoon Miss F. Briugans was the hostess at a white afternoon to Miss 'Hannay. A beautiful afternoon was spent out in the open and handsome presents were received. Last night a dance was given by the friends of Miss Hannay in the Town Hall. The hall was comfortably filled and a good night's dancing was thoroughly enjoyed. Music was provided by different players. A nice supper was served.by the ladies. The proceeds of the dance were passed on as a present from Alexandra friends.
