DUNEDIN WOOL SALE.
The third Dunedin wool sale of the season, in Burns Hall, began at 2 p.m. on Tuesday last (says the "Evening Star.") Any anxiety as to whether a latenight sitting might bring about inattcntiveness as the ordinary bedtime approached was totally dispelled before it could gather weight. The buyers, assembled in full number, and representing all the wool-buying countries, kept wide awake, and the bidding was animated to the very finish. Competition was keen but prices were slightly lower for medium qualities, while good wools met a favourable market at prices almost on a par with the February sale in Dunedin. Halfbreds and erossbreds showing style sold at prices on a par with the last sale. For merinos there was a slightly better demand at prices from par to |d in advance. The better style of p'eces and bellies met a firm marker, showing no alteration. Medium quality depreciated from 4d to lid. Representatives of Continental firms look a large proportion of the lots offering. France was particularly eager for bellies and pieces. Germany came a good second in those lines, choosing the medium grades. Bradford bid freely for all qualities, and took a fair proportion of erossbreds. America was mostly a looker-on, but secured a few choice lines; Japan was inactive. The local mills usually gather their supplies from the first and second sales of the season, but bought a little from these seven offerings at the third sale to complete their requirements. Scourers pieked up rather more than they commonly want at a third sale.
The bidders generally seemed to be governed by definite limits except for any lot of extra value. The clips opened up as well as is usual at these autumn sales. The results are deemed satisfactory by all who are content with a fair thing. A definite drop in price was feared, and the "general feeling is of relief that nothing of the sort happened. There was only a slight easing in values, and but few lots were passed
