NASEBY NOTES.
(Own Correspondent.) Armistice Day was observed here with the usual short service and address at the Soldiers Memorial, and although a bitter cold.wind was blowing, the attendance of residents and school children was good, the noticeable feature being the number of men who attended and joined heartily in the service. The Vicar based his remarks on the word ' Peace," laying particular stress on the fact, that peace among nations could be better brought about, by living in peace and charity individually, and thus carrying out the Divine Master's idea, that the Church which He founded was one great brotherhood, fellowship with one another being its great object, and eliminating all thoughts of self and self-seeking. It was a pleasure to be able to attend the unveiling of the Memorial Arch, gates and new fence at Blackstone Hill, which has been erected in memory of the " Fallen Soldiers " of that part of the district. The arch and gates were th « $ merous gift of Miss M'Keenau, and the fence the gift pf Mr T; Lowis. Quite a large number were present at the ceremony, considerably over a hundred being present. The whole ceremony was jnosb impressive. The speakers were the Vicar, Revs. Kirk and Craigie, Capt. R. J. E. Smith and Messrs Lowis, Wade and R. S. Black. The hymn sheets were kindly lent by the Naseby people, and were much appreciated. Mr W. Bfidger ably presided at the organ, and the " Last Post " was excellently played by Mr T. C. Moore. We should like to add in conclusion that the Memorial itself, also the ceremony of unveiling and dedication reflects great credit on the residents of the district, but more especially on the donors and those who were responsible for the day's proceedings.
Personal. —Mrs Palmer and two daughters have left the district and gone to reside in Tiraaru, Miss Palmer will be missed, as up to the time of leaving she was secretary of the Ladies Hockey Club. Patrons are herewith thanked for their attendance, with the, hope that all have enjoyed their two evening's a week" at cards. We again urge residents to support the "Herald" by becoming , subscribers and thus be able to read iheir own local news.
