EXPLOSIVE SCARVES
MANUFACTURER CHARGED WITH MANSLAUGHTER. A remarkable charge of manslaughter by imprudence was brought against a textile manufacturer of Troyes, who was accused of using artificial silk of an explosive nature in the manufacture of knitted scarves. It was stated that the explosiveness of the scarves was due to the fact that the nitric acid used in the" manufacture of the yarn was not removed before the yarn was used. A schoolboy was leaving a cinema at Asnieres, when his scarf buist j into flames. The lad was fatally injured, and for this his parents claimed £1,000:
