GOVERNMENT BOROUGH VALUATION.
STRIKING INCREASE. The figures for the recently completed Government valuation of the Alexandra Borough are now available and show a considerable increase on the capital value of property/within the borough since the last valuation lin 1913. Since the 1913 valuation a considerable area has been added to the rateable areas but the increase is largely due to the increase in the present-day values of building, progressive improvement of properties, increased commercial value of orchards with the trees in a greater fruit-bear-ing condition, and the general utilising of every corner and section of land, .and the general increment of valuea. The figures are as follows : 1913 1922 Increase Unimproved v Values £10,078 * £15,070 £4,992 Improved r , Values £42,961 £80,983 £38,022 Capital ' < Value £53,039 v£96,053 £43,014 Wjth less than of an increase in the unimproved value, the improved value has increased by £38,022, a very creditable*improvement, and one. due in the first instance to the initiative and energy of the citizens, supported by a good and cheap borough water supply.
