CHILDREN’S CONCERT.

(By Our Own Reporter.) Ihe children of Alexandra gave a very line little concert in aid of the wool funds of the school last Friday evening. The chairman of the School Committee (Mr K. Marslin) presiiled and the little ones were rewarded for their trouble by having a large and appreciative attendance. Miss Maud Bowler and her assistants had gone to very considerable trouble ! in training the children for the occasion and the result was highly creditable both to herself and the performers. She is to be congratulated upon the tine performance 1 she put upon the stage, j Tne concert opened with a duet ! by Misses Vera Rivers and Myrtle Thomson, which undoubtedly reflected great credit upon themselves and their teachers; the execution was excellent for children so young. A chorus Tipperary ” by the children was another treat. In a dialogue “The Dolly Show' 1 by Misses Bringans, Hazel Black, Jean Churchill, Noble, Olsen, MTntosh, and Bona Black (judge), each did her part so excellently all must have j eipial praise. The Union Jack by Miss May Anderson was nicely rendered but she was not at her best that evening. Master George Walker recited admirably. Miss Dewar with eight of her girls then gave an exhibition of physical drill, which was a fine exposition of the good work she is doing in our public school in that important department of modern education. The next item was a pianoforte solo by Miss Lottie Hannay very nicely and accurately i given. Mr Marslin in a neat little ‘ speech at this stage thanked the audience for their attendance and compliI mental the performers and organisers, j Miss Florric Bowler then gave with good execution a pianoforte solo. Miss Lottie Hannay’s rendition of Cairols ’ was lirst class, as was Master George Bowler's recitation. A very amusing dialogue was splendidly : given by Messrs W. Noble and M. ; Ledingham. Master Maynard and 1 Lottie Hannay were heard to ad- • vantage in a duet, and a recitation by 1 Master J. Walker was effectively given. ■ A chorus “ Wake up New Zealand” ■ was most effectively given by the ' i children, and a recitation by Master John . Hannay was most pleasingly ; I rendered. Then followed a dialogue j “ Tipiii to Mauro ” by Misses : j M'Donald, F. Bowler, and Master ■ W. Bowler. It was splendidly given ; 1 Miss Bowler making an ideal railway 1 clerk while Miss M‘Donald’s methods ’ j of packing her bag after giving John ’ . his ginger bread caused much merriment. Another chorus “Red White , j and Blue ” by the children was also j splendidly given. A duet by Misses L. Hannay and F. Bowler was sung

very nicely, whilst a dialogue •. " The. Gossips " by five girls—Misses M. Thomson, V. Rivers, ( M. Walker, F. Bowler and E. M'Donald was an excellently rendered final item, and we can all take the lesson to ourselves The proceeds which amounted to £8 15s were hatided over to the Girls Association. *»-
