IDA VALLEY NOTES.
(Own Correspondent.)
The weather this last three weoks has been, something •atrocious. We have had a tsste of all kinds,—snow, rain, hail, and an almost continuous disagreeable fog. It is the worst May experienced for years. May is usually a fine month.
There is practically nothing :ldoing, even the rabbiters are idle.
Our local medico is having his innings just now, as there has been a good deal of sickness in the Valley aj jthis last three weeks. Talking b||tauir medico it would appear that funds aro short for payment of tho same, some of the members paying up, ;and the Medical Club not being backed up as it should be. Canvassers are on the path collecting the fuals and enlisting as many new members as they can. It's a caso of when tho Devil was sick, tho Devil a saint would bo. When wo were, without a doctor there was a great outcry and when we have one he is not supported as ho should bo.
Our thrashing plant is at a stand still, the proprietor being laid up; and, in. fact, it is very difficult, to shift it about this weather, the ground being' so ■soft. It is rumoured that the plant is for disposal, the owner still'being laid up. There is a large amount of stuff to be threshed yet, so there .is a chance for some of your speculators. Wo had a local marriage last week to which invitations were thrown broadcast, the contracting parties being Mr Felix Flannery, oldest son of 'Mr Brian Flannery, Ophir, and Miss Margaret Gravau, youngest daughter of Mrs Gavan, Moa Creek. I understand there was a big crowd collected at Ophir when the ceremony took place, and wound, up with a dance and social in tho schoolroom. Both were natives of Ophir.
Mrs Gavan has rented her store and hotel at Moa Creek to a Mr Gunn, in connection with which they are giving a social and presentation to Mrs Gavan in Mr Alexander's barn to-night prior to her departure. At the," May stock sale at Rough Eidge sheep and lambs were decidedly lower to the extent of 1/6 to 2/- per especially. ' Things are certainly bad in the social line in Ida Valley, the young people so far have been unable to get up a quadrille party and everything is dull and flat as well as the weather.
