MONTE CARLO FOR ALASKA.

A Gambling; Casino Out nt Sea on tt>e Ice la Course of Construction .. ' at Nome Cl'-. It is proposed at Nome, Alaska, to erect a casino for gambling purposes on the ice of the high seas, three miles from shore. In this way the municipal regulations of the town will be avoided, and neither the United Stales authorities nor those of any other country will be able to interfere. In the winter Ben ring sea isl covered with ice from many miles out, the ice being 20 or 30 feet in thickness. On this a casino may be built with safety. The building, as it is planned, will contain hotel accommodations, gambling rooms, dance halls and all the other requisites. It is now und'er construction on shore in sections. The ice of Behrirg sea is very rough and hard .to travel over, but a smooth roadway will be cut out to the threemile limit and, after the casino is open to the players and dancers, stages will run nightly from Nome. Until April the building may be left standing on the ice, and then, with the approach of spring, it will be taken apart and sledded to shore to be put away for the next winter. This course on the part of the gamblers is a result of rhe closed policy maintained by the town of Nome. Gambling there is practically suppressed.
