TIMELY SHEEP NOTES.
Every farm where a flock is kept should have its patch of flax grown for the seed for the use of the ewes and lambs. In the United States we now have nine sheep to every 640 acres. In England they have 244 on the same area of land. There is a chance for improvement here. As soon as the sheep are sheared the ticks gather on the lambs, much to their discomfort and 1 damage. The easiest remedy is to dip the lambs, or, to wet the skin all over with any good sheep dip. Scours in young lambs may be checked by giving them iO drops of rhis mixture: One dram each of tincure of opium, ginger, rhubarb and eordamon seed. It is a cordial and a preventive of trouble of this kind, and should be given in a little water twice a day, or in bad cases three or four times. Give three times as much to the ewe*. —Midland Farmer. How to Flerht Ho/x tiUcs. H. Y. Teller, in his “Diseases of Live Stock,” says: These disgusting parasites abound on ill-fed and half-sick hogs. Indeed, their presence may almost be said to be a sign that the animal is out of condition. It is nol sufficient therefore to destroy the lice wtih an insecticide; if the cure is expected to be permanent, the animal must be kept ' clean, well-fed, and supported' with tonics, such as sulphate of iron, if occasion demands it. As a safe and efficient ointment to kill lice we may use scotch snuff, rubbed 1 up with lard or the following: Stavesacre seeds four ounces, while hellebore one ounce, water one gallon. 1 toil to two quarts, and apply with a brush where lice are seen,
