To-day (Anniversary Day) was observed as a holiday in Dnnedin. The championship regatta was held at Waihola in fair weather, but the water was rough. Results :—Maiden Fours —Christchurch ; Single Sculls— M'Grath ; Maiden Doubles—Anderson and Lewis; Champion Fours—Port Chalmers. . . Continue': reports come to hand of the Japanese occupation of Port Arthur, but tboy are not oonfirmed. The Japanese army has reached the Tatung Pass, and has had several engagements with the Russians. It is stated thai the Ozar goes to the front in August. The vefsel Lady Cairns bound for Timaru, collided with the steamer Moora in the Irish Channel and sank. All the crew were drowned. Thomas M'Million, bookkeeper for Butterworth Bros, was sentenced to three years' imprisonment in London for embezzling JJBOOO of the firm's money. The Duke of Cambridge was ac«! corded a military funeral at Westminster. Ihe King attended the interment at Kensal Green cemetery.
