MINING NEWS.

On Monday last Mr Alex. Aitken, •mployed on the Perseverance No. 1 dredge, met with a rather painful accident whilst attending to his duties on the dredge. It appears that Mr Aitken had been below oiling, and" ifter coining through the hatchway to the deck, his head fay some means came in contact with the main driving belt, with the result that he sustained a scalp wound (caused by the clip on the belt) and was rendered unconscious. The sufferer was taken to the Dunstan Hospital, where he was attended to by Hyde, On enquiry yesterday we . learned that he had regained conscious- " cess and was progressing satisfactorily towards recovery. . (Monday). All the rat, excepting the '.' Riley's Beach, have been busy getting ready after the holidays, and with the present low river returns should be pretty regular after a week or so.

CHICAGO GOLD DREDGING COMPANY,

The annual general meeting of shareholders in the above company was held In the company's registered office, Alexandra, on Thursday evening last, 14th inst. Mr Geo Spencer (chairman of directors) presided, and there were seven .shareholders present. The balance-sheet and directors' report (which has already been published) was read and adopted unanimously. Mr Jas Kelman was unanimously reelected to the board of directors, and Mr S J Luke was elected in the stead of Mr A Kyle, who had signified his intention of retiring from the Board. The directors' fees were fixed at .£SO, . being the same as last year. Mr F Young was re-elected auditor ' at a remuneration of £5 be. A general discussion then ensued as to the advisability of replacing the present dredge by one of greater capacity, and it was finally decided to leave the matter in toe hands of the directors to do what they thought best. - if the opportunity for purchasing a cheap and suitable dredge presented The date of the next annual meeting was fixed for the second Thursday in January, 1905. A vote" of thanks to the chairman concluded the meeting.
