MB. OABTON AND MB, PINEKO. Mr Carton used at one time to be as aotor, and was a member of the" Ljcaum Company before Sir Heniy licviag became his own member. It is curious that he and Mr Pinero, two of the most conspicuous writers of plays at the present time, should both have been members of that company, and Bhould at times have played the same partr. When Sir Henry Irving, for instance, produced 'Othello/ with himself ana the late Edwin Booth alternating Othello and lago, Mr Pinero played Boderigo, and a few years earlier, when the play was firßt produced at the Lyceum, Mr Carton acted the part. In Mr Carton's plays, the leading part is almost invariably taken by his *ifo, who on the programme figures as Miss Compton. This is another instance of the strength of the family tie in connection with the theatre. A DUSTY THBONE. , . An interesting relic has been found amid a lot of old lumber at the Palais Bourbon- It is the throne which Louis Philippe was wont to occupy when he went there to open the sessions of Parliament, It was thought that the throne had disappeared, like that of the Tuileries, after the outbreak of the revolution in 1848, but it has turned up, certainly not the worse for wear, as it has never been used since that date, and only re naires a little dusting. DB. DAVIDSON. Many anecdotes are going the rounds about the new Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Davidson. Once, as a party ef clergy were streaming in to dinner, one cf the company piously exslaimed, ' Now, put s bridle upon our appetites.' Dr. Davidson rt plied, with'swift retort,' Now, to put a bit between my toefck.'
