The following report of the retiring committee will be presented at the annual meeting of the Alexandra Cricket Club, to be held to-morrow . (Friday) evening:— i " Your committee, in presenting the annual report, can congratulate members on the satisfactory position the club has maintained, through winning all the matches played last season. It is gratifying to know that we hold the premier position in cricket throughout Central Otago, and your committee earnestly hope that it will be sustained throughout the coming season. "It was expected that a match would have been played at Arrowtown last year, teams to be picked from each County—viz., Vincent and Lake—and that a combined team from each would play ah eleven from Southland; but unfortunately this scheme did not eventuate. A match like this would naturally give a good fillip to cricket in Central Otago, and ybur committee would recommend it to your earnest attention. The number of matches played have been six, and we have been victorious in all of them, most of them being by decisive wins. "The batting average is held by J Crombie, with an average of 26 runs for 3 innings. S Churchill is second with 22 - 6 for 5 innings, and is closely followed by W S Laid law with 20*4 for 6 innings. The highest number of runs made in one innings was 46, and both W S Laid law and E King were the compilers. " In the bowling analysis some splendid averages are shown, and W Burnside is to be commended on being an easy first, Having taken 38 wickets for 29; S Churchill is second with 14 wickets for 3'7, and W King has 15 wickets to his credit for an average of 5-2 per wicket. These figures speak for themselves.
During last season a concert and dance was held to procure funds to liquidate old debts, and resulted in a credit balance of £6 18s 6d. A basket social was also held as a wind-up for the season, and was well attended by | friends of the club. ! • " Financially we are in a pretty fair position, as the receipts from all sources was .£2llßs 7d, the expenditure being £l9 15a Bd, leaving a credit balance of £2 2s lid. "Your committee would like to emphasise the fact that although the bat ting and bowling were features in all our matches, yet a point not to be overlooked is the necessity for plenty of practice in fielding. One of the main things to stop your opponents from scoring heavily is to be active in the field, pick up well, return quickly, and miss no chances. If these matters are attended to this season your committee will then 1 have no fear for the incoming season*- ; , : ''■ "We* would like to* express our thanks to Messrs Milne, Geddes, Gorman, and Speight and Co for donations to the club, and also to the ladies who so kindly dispensed afternooon tea at the various matches played here. In retiring from office, we wculd express the hope that the incoming committee will receive the same support that has been accorded to us in the past."
