The Colonies and the War.
In an appendix to the report of the Colonial Conference, some interesting figures ar« given, showing per head of the .population what the war in South Africa cost each of the colonies, which sent contingents. s Set put in tabular form, the results are as follows:
" King Dick" (says the * Cape Times'") has some Reason to congratulate himself on the place taken by New Zealand. That colony sent' nearly eight out of every thousand • of its white inhabitants to the seat of. which is pretty nearly as J good as the Mother Country, with its /average of 8£ per thousand. And tfae.rcost to New Zealand was £3 34,000, besides a pension list of £3OOO a year.! > $ t
