WAIRAU MASSACRE.

A meeting was held at the Exchange on Tuesday the 23rd July, W. Guy ton, Esq., in the chair, to toke into consideration the propriety of seconding the Nelsou settlers by presenting a petition to both Houses o£ Parliament, respecting the way in .which his Excellency had seen fit to deal with the Wairau Massacre. Moved by Dr. Featherstone. and se« conded by D. Wakefield.. Esq,— " That this meeting consider petitions should be presented to both Houses of Parliament."—Adopted. The draft of a petition was read by Dr. Featherstone, when J, Dorset, Esq., moved, seconded by Mr. Annear—- " That a meeting be called Jby public advertisement in the Gazette, to be held in the Exchange, at 7 o'clock, on Friday evening next."—Adopted.
