From the Cavalla Isles to the Nine pin-rock, at the entrance of the Bay of Islands, S E, about 14 miles. From the Nine pin to Cape Brett, E | N, about 10 miles. From there to Tarpeka Point, S, about 7 miles. In steering into the Bay of Islands, with a fair wind, the course is S W, until you open the anchorage on your larboard hand, at Kororareka Beach. From Cape Brett to Bream Head, SE by S, half the way, and SSE, to pass between the Hen and Chickens and Bream Head, From Cape Bsett to the Poor Knights, SE., about 20 miles. From Bream Head to Point Rodney, SE \ S, about 28 miles. From Point Rodney to the south end of the Flat rock Island, SE by S j S, about 10 miles. From the south point of the Island, to the south east point of the Little NE by N g N, to the N W Point, JN by E J E. Ditto to a fair berth outside the Island of Tiri Tiri Matanga, S by E J K. Ditto to the Flat rock E by N \ N, distance 3 miles. Ditto through Tiri Tiri Matanga Passage to Rang.ato'o Passage south (the entrance to-Auckland). A reef(lately discovered) bearing EN E, o£f,tb% eastern side of Tiri Tiri f Matanga, with one foot water on it at low water. Fiom a fair berth outside Tiri Tiri Ma tanga to the North Head of the Waitemata S by W. Great Barrier Harbour bears W by S b South from the Little Barrier. I lit# tide sets from die eastward on to the coast • divides on Point Rodney, and flows down the-coast to Auckland, and up towards the Bay. High water full and change about 6 o’clock. The time of high water at Auckland and the Bay only differ nbwut one hour.
