December 1841 At Repa[?] again, on the 11th of this month, the thought arose. Sir, Colenso, Greetings to you. I have very great affection for you, also because we are suffering on account of our land taken for the Pakeha. This was done without authority. Friend, it was the place you liked. Sir, our land was taken by the Pakeha and we did not agree to give it to him. This is wrong and has been done by misguided Maori chiefs. It is the result of ignorance and, as is said, fairness cannot be expected of the ignorant. It was their business, the chiefs. And it is wrong, but I still have my land.
