20 May 1846 Go off, my letter, to Wanganui, to McLean Greetings. This is with my fondness for you, and wherever you go, my affection remains with you. I went to gather together the people of my tribe at Taranaki. All up there were more than two hundred, but no more than three hundred. They heard me speak of the bad behaviour and heard my plan. However, you know my thoughts, that to end the business you should consider coming here. There should be no more trouble after this. It is up to you to decide about Aperahama. He has asked me for payment, but I said to him, 'McLean has the authority for that; be considerate to him.' Trousers[?] was what he asked for from me. That's all. From Te Waka [Note following] 'May 20 1846. Te Waka has mustered his people, all 200 and recommended[?] Aperahama to Mr McLean's notice.'
Ko Mei 20, 1846 Haere ra, e taku pukapuka, ki Wanganui, ki a Makarini. Tena koe. Kahore na, he he o muri nei. Heoi ano. Na Te Waka
